Phonics and Reading Curriculum

Synthetics phonics are taught every day in a dedicated slot at the start of each school day using a range of resources including Letters and Sounds.

In Key Stage 2 spelling is taught every day in a dedicated slot at the start of each school day using a range of resources including Support for Spelling.

There is a wide range of reading books in use. These are all colour coded to the book bands which are linked to the national curriculum levels for reading. Book resources are chosen to engage all readers’ interests.

The school library has a wide range of fiction and non- fiction texts.

Children have a range of reading experiences on a regular basis:-
• Individual reading
• Guided reading
• Shared reading
• Reading comprehension activities

Children are read to on a regular basis to engender a love of books and reading.
