Year 1 - Oak Class

Year 1 - Oak Class

Welcome to Oak Class

Our teacher is Miss Wareing and we have help from Miss Houghton and Mrs Higham. In Oak class, we enjoy being happy and active to ensure we’re ready to develop and build our skills learnt in Reception. During your time in Oak Class we continue to develop our English and maths skills and understanding. We will also be learning about ourselves, including looking at our emotions and the emotions of others and building our independence. Throughout the year, we continuously work on developing a positive growth mind set and ‘having a go’ at activities we might find challenging and learning it is okay to make mistakes.

Key Information

  • Breaktime Snacks: Toast and milk is available for the children at breaktime and is payable via SCOpay. Children will also be given a choice of fruit everyday through the Free Fruit Scheme.

  • PE: Please send the children’s PE kit at the start of term that will stay in school for the duration of a half term before being sent home to wash. The children’s PE kit should be a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts and their trainers/black pumps. Please ensure all PE kit is labelled.

  • Read 4 the stars: We ask the children to read four times a week and have their reading diary (now on Boom reader) signed each time they read. If the children read four times a week, they will earn a reading star and five house points.

  • Homework: Homework is set each Friday and needs to be completed by the following Wednesday.

  • Spellings: Spellings will be sent home every Monday and will tested the following Monday.

  • Water Bottles: Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle into school every day to keep them hydrated throughout the school day.

We hope that your child enjoys being part of Oak Class and succeeds and develops a real love and excitement for learning.

If you have any questions regarding anything, please do not hesitate to contact us should you need to via Class Dojo.
